There are many types of rulings. 60%/40% is one. Split score is another. All rulings can be entered right at result entry:

  1. Enter North-South's result
  2. Enter a slash (/)
  3. Enter East-West's result
  4. Hit Enter

At certain rulings you may leave out the dash (see the samples at your right; capital letters or nor does not matter).

Another way of entering rulings is to click Result menu, select Ruling, and use the North-South and East-West options to set the ruling at hand.

Average rulings
A+ and A- award points for the time being, i.e. there is a difference between the points awarded while the contest is running and after the contest has finished. The reason to this, in a barometer event, is to simplify score follow-up for the players.

During the contest, A+ awards exactly 60% while A- awards exactly 40%.

After the contest, A+ awards at least 60%, depending on the pair's recorded percentage on the other boards, while A- awards at most 40% on the same scoring grounds.

Fouled boards
When there is a fouled board parts of the field has played a board with one layout and other parts with another layout. For example, 5 and Q may have switched hands.

The first thing to do is to decide which version is the main one. The other version is called Version a. Results referring to the main version are entered in a normal fashion while the other results are to be succeeded by >a, i.e. -420>a.

The fouled board will create one score table per version and Neuberg's formula will be used to adjust the awarded points. Magic Contest can handle multiple fouled versions (a-i).

Weighted score (Law 12C1c)
Law 12C1c gives the TD an opportunity to make a ruling where the decision does not have to be exactly one score. This means that a tricky ruling can be solomonly decided at 50% 4S making and 50% 4S down one or even 50%, 25% and 25% for three different scores.

Entry Ruling
A+A- This is the classic 60%/40%. A means average. All combinations of A+, A= and A- respectively work, i.e. A+A-, A-A+, A=A=, and so on (read more to your left).

6040 This is a faster way of entering A+/A-. All combinations of 60, 50 and 40 work, i.e. 6040, 4060, 5050, and so on.

60/40 Yet another way.

60%/40% This is another type of percentage, namely exact percentage. Exact percentages are never adjusted when printing the final result (see Average rulings to your left). Of course 95%/12% works as well.

60%40%
60p40p
p60p40
The same as 60%/40% above.

170/590 This is a split score where different results have been ruled for North-South and East-West. In this particular example, North-South got 170 while East-West paid 590.

=10/=20 This is how you award an exact score.

=10=20
S10S20
Other ways of awarding exact scores.

420/A-
=10/590
A+/p60
You can combine different types of rulings in all ways imaginable.

420>a Fouled board entry (read more to your left).

Law 12C1c Enter a weighted score like this:
12C1c:2/420/3/-50
The interpretation is that the ruling gives 2 times 420 and 3 times -50.

If you are entering contracts, i.e. you have checked the Enter contracts checkbox, there are special cases for split scores of the type 170/590. The difference is that you need to preceed the result with an "r" (for "result").
