Rounding of scores is a popular topic with many opinions. Magic Contest gives you two options:

  • Exact scoring
  • WBF rules (always 1 decimal)
The way the WBF rules are implemented is that in case of 0.05 scores (7.75, 5.25, and so on), they are rounded upwards (7.8, 5.3, and so on).

View scores with exact scoring
Rounding should not be confused with how scores are viewed. Another option lets you select whether to show 0, 1, 2 or 3 decimals, or even lets Magic Contest decide automatically what to show.

The scoring, however, is always exact no matter how many decimals you choose to show. This means that with 1 decimal shown there is a difference between total scores of 100.01 and 99.99 even though both are displayed as 100.0.

Example

With exact scoring it looks like this:

# Result   N-S E-W
1 120       7.75 0.25
3 -100   2.75 5.25
1 63%/37%   5.04 2.96

With exact scoring and rounding to one decimal it looks like this:

# Result   N-S E-W
1 120       7.8 0.3
3 -100   2.8 5.3
1 63%/37%   5.0 3,0

These scores are only for display. The scores used for overall scoring are according to the first table.

With WBF scoring it looks like this:

# Result   N-S E-W
1 120       7.8 0.3
3 -100   2.8 5.3
1 63%/37%   5.0 3,0

The exact scores are used for the overall scoring. Note that the sum of N-S and E-W can be larger than the top when WBF rules are used.
