========================================================= MAGIC BIDDING ========================================================= CHANGE LOG ========== Minor enhancements and bugs have been omitted in this change log. Version 1.2.1, 00-02-08 ======================= * If a defender bids an automatic defensive bid that you choose to delete and replace with Pass, that defender is a little too persistent. The result is that he will continue bidding until you do not delete his bid. This bug has been removed. * Due to the above mentioned persistence problem, the Magic Bidding file format has changed. This Magic Bidding version can read old files but not vice versa. Version 1.2.0, December -99 =========================== * The program version notation has changed. The idea is that version 1.2.0 succeeds version 1.12. * The Magic Bidding file format has changed. This means that the the current program version can open old files but not the other way around. * The new Magic Bidding version can import PBN files. PBN (Portable Bridge Notation) is a general format for exchanging bridge deals between computer programs. You can read more about it at the PBN homepage: http://www.IAEhv.nl/users/veugent/pbn.html. If you want to import a PBN file, click Browse when you are prompted for a file name and change the file format to "Portable Bridge Notation Files". * When inserting a new bidding session, the actions have been reversed. First you select the file and then you enter extra information (see below). * The menu command Options-Bidding Session contains more options: 1. You can enter your and your partner's names that will automatically appear when you insert a new bidding session. 2. You can select which is your default position. This enables you to start bidding immediately after having inserted a new bidding session. Both the features above are meant to speed up insertion of new bidding sessions. 3. If you select the File Type tab you can select what file format is the default one. 4. You can also state the format of extra information supplied in PBN files. Please contact your supplier of deal generators for more information on this issue. * Magic Bidding can bid defensive bids automatically. There is no intelligence built into Magic Bidding so the defensive actions all depend on the information sent from the deal generator as well as the settings in Options-Automatic Defensive Actions. For more information, select the menu item and press Help. * The defensive actions that were previously shown to the user are hidden until the bidding is over. * Magic Bidding automatically finishes the bidding when one player bids 7N. In case of one ace missing the defender with the ace shows no mercy. * Auto-bid in the first round of bidding, for instance after 1C-1D; 1H, has been enabled. * When using the comment field in the bottom of the screen your name is automatically inserted in the beginning of the comment. This enables you to remember who made what comment. * Even though it used to be possible to edit the suits for all players, no changes would ever be saved. Now, editing is not possible. * In case your deal generator generated East's and West's hands they are included when you copy a hand or an entire bidding session by using the Copy command or the Copy button. Note that the East-West hands are always present if you imported PBN files. Version 1.12, September -98 =========================== No particular functionality has been added. * Magic Bidding has been adjusted to the new Bridge D/A file format. Version 1.11, May -98 ====================== No particular functionality has been added. * The Magic Bidding file format has changed. This means that old files can not be opened by Magic Bidding version 1.1 and vice versa. There are no conversion facilities available but if you e-mail the files to me I will convert them and return them to you. * Since the file format has changed, the log file that can be found in the program folder has to be converted in the same way as normal Magic Bidding files (see above). If you have not used the Log button there is no need for a conversion. You can find more information about the Log button if you press Help with a bidding session open. * The menu item Bidding Session in the Insert menu has been moved to the Bidding menu. The Insert menu has been removed. * There is a new button in the toolbar that allows you to insert new bidding sessions. * If you have used the menu item Bidding Session in the Options menu to set default names, they have disappeared. Just enter them again. Version 1.1, April -98 ====================== * The Magic Bidding file format has changed. This means that old files can not be opened by Magic Bidding version 1.1 and vice versa.
